If you think about it, all of us know a nurse. From a nurse neighbor who comforts us when our child has a fever to the ER nurse who soothed our soccer kid’s fears after a hard hit, our lives are continually impacted by a nurse.
This is National Nurses Week. And as we honor the role of nurses, it is also the perfect time to listen to what nurses wished we knew about our health.
Here are five tips from nurses that will benefit your health:
1. Stress will make you sick.
Few people know more about handling stress than a nurse. The unpredictable nature of a nurse’s work means stress is a typical part of the day. What a nurse knows is that when you can’t escape the stress of life, it’s important to find ways to cope with those feelings.
“Part of being an emotionally healthy person is acknowledging your feelings and not judging them,” said Maria Reyes, MD., a psychiatrist with University of Utah Health Care.
