BRISTOL, Va. — Architect Hal Craddock recognized the possibilities the first time he gazed at the three buildings destined to become The Sessions Hotel, and that vision is finally poised to become reality.

On Thursday, Craddock and his partners with Creative Boutique Hotels hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the 70-room hotel planned for three 100-year-old buildings in downtown Bristol. The $20 million project will join the former Jobbers Candy factory and Service Mills building along Goode Street and the Owen Equipment building — formerly Bristol Grocery — in the 800 block of State Street near the busy state line intersection with Volunteer Parkway and Commonwealth Avenue.

“As soon as we drove up into this complex, we said ‘this is it. These three buildings are it.’ I call it the vision disease — you see something you don’t know how to pay for, but you can’t get it out of your mind,” Craddock said following Thursday’s ceremony.
